Planning a Kolkata Trip ? This episode is just perfect for your first time visit to the city. The city is almost 300 years old and is an eclectic mix of the splendid decaying past and the promising new future. The British had built some amazing buildings during their heydays and today Kolkata flaunts the colonial-era architecture with pride. Kolkata is a mélange of the old and new. A part of the city is the old and decaying one trying to hold on to its past. Here the roads are congested, houses are old and joined to other and there are numerous alleys and boulevards. This part is definitely the older Calcutta. The other part is the swanky modern one with flyovers and malls and modern offices and apartment – the new Kolkata.
While you can capture the essence of Kolkata within a few days, it’s one of those places you feel it’d take a lifetime to fully explore and understand. But to get you started on your discovery, here are a few things you really can’t miss

The name City of Joy is almost certainly down to the amazing local people who populate it. Kolkata’s residents are undeniably proud of their city, a place which has a unique energy and atmosphere quite unlike anywhere else in India. As you walk around the markets, through the Kumartuli district, or hop into the back of a yellow cab be sure to talk to the locals. Ask them what parts of their city they love, and I guarantee you’ll find some new and wonderful places to explore or delicious new street food to seek out.
