If you follow a specific macronutrient ratio, you are likely restricting the intake of many healthy foods, like fruits, starches, intact grains and legumes. Most macronutrient ratios promote excessive protein and/or fat intakes, which are in themselves unhealthy, but they are also unachievable within an overall healthy dietary pattern.

Most "trendy" macronutrient ratios are incompatible with eating a large variety of whole plant foods, limiting saturated fat and staying somewhat close to the recommended protein intake! You start to wonder how anyone in their right mind can recommend them! Macronutrient ratios normalize severe carb restriction with fancy pie charts, which should only be used in certain medical scenarios, not in everyday life!

Following "balanced macros" (33,33,33 and similar ratios) sounds like a valid approach - it is not! These ratios describe very low-carb, high fat, ultra-high protein diets, completely unsuitable for most people!
