How to Build an Aquarium Canopy - with an open top while the lid is closed?!

This is how I built the canopy for the 120 gallon aquarium that will soon be a planted discus tank. I hope you find it useful if you are thinking about building one for yourself. All you have to do is measure the tank, and then measure and cut the side and front panels to include a little wiggle room, and continue from there.

This canopy has an open top even while the door is closed, so that the lighting which is mounted on the wall can still illuminate the tank and ambiently reflect off of the ceiling.

Now that the cabinet, tank, and canopy are in place, and all the gear is ordered and delivered, it is time to start the process of selecting and ordering plants and planning the hardscape layout.
