Scott Agness recaps Indiana Fever return to the playoffs, Game 1 loss at Connecticut

Scott Agness of FieldhouseFiles.com recaps the Indiana Fever 93-69 loss in Game 1 of their first-round series against the Connecticut Sun Sunday afternoon at Mohegan Sun Arena. It's a best-of-three series

The Fever trailed by three after 1 and by just eight points at halftime. Then after trailing by double digits, they got to within five a few minutes into the third quarter, but the Sun kept attacking. Their defense had trouble containing the Sun, especially Marina Mabrey in the second half, and their 3-point shot wasn't falling.

Caitlin Clark had 11 points on 4-of-17 shooting, including 2 of 13 from distance. As a team, they were 6 of 28. It wasn't good. Kelsey Mitchell scored 21 points and Aliyah Boston added 17 points and 11 rebounds.

The Sun changed up the Clark defensive matching, putting veteran DeWanna Bonner as the primary defender rather than DiJonai Carrington. And Clark was affected early when Carrington's hand scraped Clark near her right eye. After the game, Clark had a black eye.
