Meditação (Meditation) - Bossa Nova Guitar Lesson #9: Third Basic Phrase Syncopated

Описание к видео Meditação (Meditation) - Bossa Nova Guitar Lesson #9: Third Basic Phrase Syncopated

Transcription is based on the two recordings by João Gilberto, the first studio recording he made with Jobim and released on album O Amor, o Sorriso e a Flor and the other one João Gilberto performed live in Carnegie Hall concert in 1964 and released on album Getz/Gilberto vol. 2.

The lesson shows the usage of basic bossa nova phrase 4113. Here it is performed with legato, except the last beat that usually corresponds with a chord change so it needs to be played with staccato in order to mute the strings during the chord change. This rhythmic phrase was used very often by João Gilberto in the early bossa nova period.

Few things to note about guitar accompaniment:

1. The first studio recording was played in A, while the live version João Gilberto performed in G. The chords used in this video correspond to those from the studio version, but transposed to G as played in the live version. As some chords after such transposition would fall below 1st fret in those occasions the chords from live version were used.

2. The lyrics were synchronized to the melody João Gilberto sang on studio recording. The rhythmic phrases also belong to the first recording.

There is a typo at 2:58, the chord name should be Bm7, not Bbm7
