How To Make RC Car Steel Gears Stronger And Less Brittle

Описание к видео How To Make RC Car Steel Gears Stronger And Less Brittle

Gears of RC cars have a hard live. At least in my case! Even if they are made of steel, they crack from time to time. So what can we do to make sinter pressed steel gears less brittle and more durable? We can temper them, so that they are softer and less brittle afterwards.
I already did that during this video:    • Steel RC Car Differentials: How Do Th...
The gears were softer afterwards, but too soft and the wear was enormous. So this video shows you how to do the tempering process in a more controlled way.

Another issue in the JLB Racing Cheetah is, that the differential gearbox housing are not stiff enough. so the gear mesh is way off during heavy torque load. To solve this issue, I have 3D printed a gearbox stiffener for the Cheetah.
You can download the STL data on my Thingiverse and 3D print your own stiffener: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:286...

The front wheel drive was removed during an earlier video:
The result is a crazy overpowered rear wheel drive car. Completely undriveable without an electronic stability control. Luckily I have developed an Arduino based electronic stability control in the past, called Micro RC Stability Control „MRSC“. So I have updated the software of:

- Rear wheel drive conversion with improved stability management:    • JLB Racing Cheetah: Rear Wheel Drive ...

How the MRSC controller works:
- The gain and the steering angle are read as a standard RC servo signal
- The yaw rate feedback comes from an MPU-6050 gyro / accelerometer sensor
- The Atmega 328P is calculating a new steering servo signal, according to the input data above
- The car tries to follow the requested angle, which comes from the steering wheel
- If required, counter steering is executed
- Basically it does the same as the Traxxas TSM an the Spectrum AVC systems

So we have fun with an overpowered rear wheel drive, tires like pizza cutters and are still able to keep this beast under control!
