साएगा मृग इस धरती पर तब से मौजूद हैं जब हमारी पृथ्वी का ज्यादातर हिस्सा बर्फ की मोटी चादर में लिपटा था. लेकिन हिमयुग के जमाने से चली आ रही मृगों की इस प्रजाति का अस्तित्व हाल के दशकों में खतरे में पड़ गया. अच्छी खबर यह है कि कजाखस्तान में उनकी संख्या बढ़ रही है.
