This Common Loon (Gavia immer) was as interested in us as we were in him. He approached our boat, inspected us and swam around us while we took video of him. This loon footage was taken in Northern Maine within a few miles of the Canadian border. Common Loons dive under water and swim very fast to catch fish. They swallow fish whole. Baby Loons often ride on their mother's back until they learn to dive and catch their own food.
