Molly Santana Interview: Hanging w/ Lil Uzi Vert, Her Album, Lazer Dim 700 Meme, Modeling, Japan

In this interview, Arshan sat down with Molly Santana ahead of her New York City show that kicked off her summer tour alongside Ski Mask The Slump God and Hardrock. The rising California-born but Atlanta-made artist has been turning heads with her quick ascent within the underground, since picking up the mic in 2021. Before delving into music fully though, Molly studied fashion design in Japan – where her mother who was working for Universal Music Japan also had her translating and transcribing lyrics from iconic projects like ‘Luv Is Rage 2’ by Lil Uzi Vert on the side. It was encounters like this with music that influenced her to put down the books and instead start writing and making music for herself. Since then she has surpassed a great deal of her peers with her own growing cult fanbase who are undeniably drawn to her increasingly versatile sound that spans rage-oriented 16s and 808-heavy production with notable cuts like “Chain Swangin” and “Black Ops” to more pop-structured tracks like “So Right” throughout the headturning April release of her self-titled album. Molly further shushes critics trying to box her into one-dimensionality via her fashion pursuits – stemming from her authentic background in fashion design – along with her measured creative direction that backs her grungy visuals and social media presence.
