CALCIUM CHANNEL BLOCKERS
Calcium channel blockers (CCBs) are the class of medications which lower blood pressure and treat other conditions such as chest pain and an irregular heartbeat.
Calcium channel blockers lower blood pressure by preventing calcium from entering the cells of heart & arteries

CALCIUM CHANNEL BLOCKERS CLASSIFICATION
CCBs are divided into three classes based on their effects:
1. Dihydropyridines (They are potent vasodilators)
Nifedipine & Nitrendipine
Amlodipine, Lacidipine & Felodipine
2. Phenylalkylamines (Potent myocardial depressants)
Verapamil
Gallopamil
3. Benzothiazepine like diltiazem moderate vasodilators and myocardial depressants

CALCIUM CHANNEL BLOCKERS MECHANISM
This are prescription medications that relax blood vessels and increase the supply of blood and oxygen to the heart while also reducing the heart's workload.
Calcium channel blockers start working within 2 – 4 hours of taking the first dose, but it can take 3 – 4 weeks for the full effects to kick in.
In some cases, such as with amlodipine, taking the medication at night could reduce your blood pressure more than taking it in the morning

These are the drugs that block L-type of voltage gated calcium channels present in blood vessels and heart.
Calcium channel blockers lower your blood pressure by preventing calcium from entering the cells of heart and arteries.
Calcium causes the heart and arteries to contract more strongly.
By blocking calcium, calcium channel blockers allow blood vessels to relax and open.

CALCIUM CHANNEL BLOCKERS USES
Calcium-channel blockers are widely used as an effective treatment for hypertension and angina.
Several studies have raised questions about their safety, suggesting that calcium-channel blockers can increase the rates of myocardial infarction (MI) and death, particularly in patients with heart disease

CALCIUM CHANNEL BLOCKERS INDICATIONS WITH TRICKS
Cardiovascular indications include (CHASMA & SRP)
C= Coronary spasm
H= Hypertension
A= Angina pectoris,
S= Supraventricular dysrhythmias
M= Migraine headaches
A= Atrial flutter
S= Subarachnoid hemorrhage
R= Raynaud phenomenon
P= Pulmonary hypertension.

CALCIUM CHANNEL BLOCKERS CONTRAINDICATIONS
Calcium channel antagonists are also contraindicated in patients with
Known hypersensitivity to the drug or its components.
Sick sinus syndrome (EXCEPT in patients with an artificial pacemaker)
Severe hypotension
Acute myocardial infarction (heart attack)
Pulmonary congestion
