Black Mesa - Highest Point of Oklahoma!

Описание к видео Black Mesa - Highest Point of Oklahoma!

Continuing my journey to summit the highest point of all 50 states of the United States (Plus Washington DC & Puerto Rico) with Oklahoma. Black Mesa is the high point of the state of Oklahoma, with a peak elevation of 4,973 ft above sea level. The high point is located in the far northwestern corner of the Oklahoma panhandle within Black Mesa State Park.

This is one of the most beautiful landscapes I have ever seen, an ancient volcanic field that has transformed over millions of years into the mesas and desert buttes that remain today. The flat pasture lands and prairies of Oklahoma transform into this colorful rocky desert landscape.

The total hike to the summit is about 8.5 miles (4.2 miles to the top and 4.2 miles back to the trail head), with a total of 800 ft of elevation gain. There is little tree coverage here and summer heat can get well above 100 F so bring at least 2 L of water and dress accordingly. Also I highly recommend hiking the additional quarter mile past the high point marker to the edge of the mesa to see an incredible view of the valley and surrounding mesas and extinct volcanoes.
