VIDEO DESCRIPTION - This painting tutorial will take you through easy to follow, step-by-step instructions on how to paint this seasonal animal portrait image of "LANTERN LIT SPIDER". You'll learn simple painting techniques that will help you to develop this fun spooky creation filled with dimension, neutral colors, a full moon, a shiny web and a big ass spider making it's way through the night with a glowing lantern! Whether you want your spider to have a colorful shell body, hairy legs or long fangs that will terrify the viewer, you'll have fun painting it walking in front of the enchanted dark nights sky and over it's intricate web that is shimmering with dew drops on the silk structure. You can imaging the web to be hanging between two trees in a cemetery, or in the window, or attic of an old haunted house with a Halloween holiday storybook illustration feel to it. You’ll learn how to paint this playful image that is inspired by Halloween, which is a celebration observed in many countries on October 31st, the eve of the Western Christian feast of All Hallows' Day. Learn how to use simple painting techniques for blending the moon surface for added depth and atmospheric dimension. You can personalize the creature walking across the web to be that of a spider, cat, goblin, ghoul, or zombie, or you could have a witch, bats or ghost flying through the air! You could make the scene appear to be more like autumn by adding a tree with branches and fall colored leaves, or corn stalks flanking the sides of the canvas, or have the web going across a pumpkin patch. This is a painting inspired by the fun spirit of the holidays and the imagination that can be sparked by their symbolism. Let the character be the frightening focal point and the colors natural with vibrant hues using carefree paint strokes. You’ll learn how to add a realistic glow from the inside of the lantern that shines bright and casts a reflection on the legs and body of the insect, and highlights on the back and appendages of the arachnid that will create a 3D realistic affect. The figure of the bug will come to life with the position of the legs adding motion and movement to the composition. The monochromatic style color palette will add a moodiness to the image and will create good visual balance. This painting will be fun to create and you will learn some valuable lessons along the way on how to create an expressive image that is chilling, eerie and perhaps a little scary.
