A good relationship with a GP and GP practice is key to helping a person with young onset dementia and their family navigate the complex systems and pathways for young onset dementia care.

Our webinar in October 2024, was led by Dr Nerida Burnie, a general practitioner with a special interest in dementia. It included key points where GPs can help people with young onset dementia including:

The challenge of getting a diagnosis
What GPs can do to help people and their family’s post-diagnosis
How GPs can advocate for change, identify gaps in services and improve the accuracy of prevalence and dementia type data
Dr Burnie will also discuss the challenges within the NHS and the need to recognise the important role GPs can have in supporting people with young onset dementia, and promote and support this relationship.

An interview Martina Davis who is living with young onset posterior cortical atrophy, offered a personal perspective.
