CUMBRIA WAY - Day 3 (Hike & Wild Camp - Rosthwaite to Caldbeck)

Описание к видео CUMBRIA WAY - Day 3 (Hike & Wild Camp - Rosthwaite to Caldbeck)

Hiking and wild camping the Cumbria Way capturing the autumn colours as we descend into winter. Backpacking from the south to the north across the Cumbria county we travel 117 km (about 73 miles). With diversity of landscape and with the majority served from the Lake District we witness lakes and high fell tops contrasted with lower valleys at the start and finish.

This video will form the third part of a series of four videos describing the journey of the Cumbria Way. If you are planning to do this hike, this video will help prepare you for the landscape that you will encounter, particularly in the Lake District which is where day three takes place.

This video find us breaking camp just north of Rosthwaite. The weather was wet as we packed away our tent gear.

We follow the River Derwent to meet up with Derwentwater and we hung the western shore until we arrive at the outskirts of Keswick. Rather than entering the centre we skirt the town centre to find the approach path to Lattrigg. From the top of this hill we head further north between the valley of Blencarathra and Lonscale Fells. After some distance we come to the highest place hostel in Great Britain, Skiddaw House YHA. From here we pass Carrock Mines and then ascend the highest peak on the Cumbria Way which is High Peak at 1559 feet.

We now head over to Caldbeck, but decide to push a mile or so pass the village to ensure we are out of view. It is here we find a wild camping spot to pitch our tent sufficiently away from the path to Carlise.
