A winter challenge on the CLEVELAND WAY #1

The Cleveland Way is a National Trail that sits in North Yorkshire skirting the high moors on one side of a horseshoe shaped path with the other side following a dramatic coastline. Whilst I felt confident covering the 107.4ml/173km the true test would be the effects of winter on my mental capacity and gear.

This first video covers the first two days of the journey, with a further two videos to be published to complete this full winter challenge. We start the journey in the market town of Helmsley, then heading in a northern direction to Osmotherley.Highlights along the way include the ancient bridge of Riveaulx, the village of Cold Kirkby and High Paradise Farm.

Before entering Osmotherley for supplies we spend a night wild camping. This is a first good test of all our gear but we survive all the wind and rain that nature fully provides. The next day we spend considerable amount of time on the moors, battling the strong winds and heavy down pours. We climb unto the Wain Stones before heading down and finding a wid camping pitch near to Clay Bank Top. In the comfort of our wild camping tent we discuss the days events, and then consider our plans for the following day which will appear in the next video.
