Petroglyph Canyon | Sloan Canyon National Conservation Area, Nevada | Visit https://lasvegasareatrails.com/petrog... | Petroglyph Canyon is the premier showcase trail for the Sloan Canyon National Conservation Area. There is a Petroglyph Gallery Loop that begins a little over 1 mile from the trailhead which contains over 300 petroglyph rock panels and over 1,700 individual rock art designs. Having said that, don’t expect the petroglyphs to jump out at you. You have to be a real detective to find them on scattered small 3-4ft high boulders mostly to the right and just 10-15 feet above the base of the main wash.

There are 3 dry waterfalls to ascend just before the main petroglyph gallery area. The third, though only 15 ft high is rather challenging due to its steep, polished rock surface with only a very few shallow polished hand and foot holds. You may be able to circumvent the dry waterfalls by taking the Cowboy Trail split-off gallery loop to the right below the dry waterfall section.

I imagine the figure on the video cover successfully summited the third dry waterfall and made it into the main upper canyon area. There is another figure in the slide show and video who looks as if he fell!

Once you get the hang of where to find the petroglyphs, they begin to appear everywhere! A number of petroglyphs are pictured in the slide show. There is a feeling of connecting with the ancient artist and their thoughts as you gaze on the petroglyphs.
