Driving The GOLDEN CIRCLE In Iceland + Geothermal Food Tour!!

Our 2nd day in Iceland was jam packed full of waterfalls, food, and interesting sights! After our first morning waking up around Selfoss, we embarked on our Golden Circle drive. The Golden Circle drive is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Iceland due to its close proximity to Reykjavik and being able to complete it in just one day.

Our first destination was Gulfoss, a popular waterfall on the Golden Circle. After Gulfoss we headed to Geysir Hot Springs, a hotspot for geysers, mud pots, and more! (And the notable home of Strokkur Geyser.) We saw lots of Icelandic horses on our drive and had to stop over to pet a few. We instantly fell in love with them.

Then began our food tour for the day with the first stop being Laugarvatn Fontana. We booked and attended their Rye Bread Experience Tour where we tried Icelandic Rye Bread that was baked in the hot springs. Going along with the geothermal theme, our next food stop was a geothermal tomato greenhouse (also known as Fridheimar). We ate inside the greenhouse which is also a restaurant to try their many tomato-themed items. Their tomato soup/bread buffet was AMAZING!

There were a few more stops we wanted to go to on the Golden Circle, but we were running out of time and continued onto our other stops on the Ring Road. The first of those was Seljalandfoss, a 60 meters (200 feet) tall waterfall, followed by Skogafoss. Our last stop on the Ring Road was Reynisfjara Beach (or black sand beach) which is famous for its basalt columns!

We fueled up on our first gas station hot dog and retired to our hotel just outside of Vik for the night where we got a great night’s sleep after being so tired from our full day of activities.
