📍 - house of surf , Varkala 🌴Welcome to Day 2 of the Varkala series - Why, God, Why? It wasn't raining until last week, but the moment I landed, the rain god might have thought he was welcoming me with rain. But no, as usual, my day started with a neck sprain and a heat bubble. I'm sure they are both enjoying the vacation more than I am. :/
Almost every day, my day starts at Sareena Aunty's house, greeted by her beautiful smile and amazing tea. I had tea and an amazing breakfast: idly and appam with egg roast. What a deadly combo, man! Later, I came back, freshened up quickly, and waited for the bike rentals bhayya. Meanwhile, my tea cravings started again, so I visited Aunty's house. This time, we had a nice chat. Aunty shared how busy her day always is in the kitchen and how Uncle rushes her to prep food. For that, Aunty replied, "I am not a robot." Haha, good one, isn't it? I felt a helper would make Aunty's day easier. I personally observed that most people clean their utensils themselves. I haven't seen any helpers around.
After a long wait, I got my bike, and I can't express how much I love bike rides. I was asked to join the girls' group for a car rental, but I was craving to take a bike and just ride on those beautiful roads. When I finally got one, Minal and I went to an amazing nearby temple, which was about to close but reopens at 5 PM. It was a good start. Then we visited a restaurant with a unique name, "Babu Farm." Minal, Diya, and I sat there for almost an hour waiting for the food to be served. It was okay, though, especially the biryani, which was yummy.
Later, I went alone for a long beach walk, which I had never done before. Just me, the beach waves, and my thoughts—it was surreal. I sat there for some time, letting my thoughts flow and contemplating. It was just the space I needed. By the way, I had company from three pups. Two were in full-on playful mode, while one was just like me, so we sat together. Haha. Around 4:30 PM, I felt it might rain and headed back. Bang! The moment I came back, it rained like crazy.
As I mentioned in the video, although a lot wasn't going as planned, I wasn't impacted by any of it. I am here for an experience, and every experience must be accepted. While it was raining, I entertained myself with the dolak and a spoof of Nani's song. I was silent for some time, watching the rain. Later, while craving tea again, the rain stopped. I rushed to Aunty's house and had tea. Surprisingly, Aunty was not in the kitchen. After she gave me tea, we sat for a while and chit-chatted. She also taught me how to prep her signature coconut chutney, and we had a casual talk. It felt homely and good. :)
That's where I met an amazing person, Azru, who also owns a stay there. I headed back to the hostel, made some calls, and called it a day. I had the yummiest cauliflower masala with 4 rotis, which I thought I couldn't finish, but I did. I slept very peacefully, oh sorry, not so peacefully because of the sprain, but it was far better. ♥️
