Faces of the NHS: 1.5 million stars | Alexandra Adams | TEDxNHS

Описание к видео Faces of the NHS: 1.5 million stars | Alexandra Adams | TEDxNHS

Alexandra Adams is one of the 1.5 million stars working in the NHS but her light shines uniquely to other medical students. She is deafblind, and has had to battle a huge number of prejudices on her journey to becoming a doctor. Rather than letting it dim her dreams, Alex went in search of other blind and deaf doctors who taught her that not only was what she was striving to achieve possible, but that she could thrive. A passionate advocate for diversity in healthcare, she created Faces of the NHS, a nationwide campaign to show that our differences should be celebrated, not stereotyped. Alexandra is a 4th year medical student. She is also registered blind and hearing impaired, making her the first deafblind person in the UK to be trained towards becoming a doctor. Having faced discrimination and inequality in the workplace, she advocates for better diversity, inclusivity and representation for those with disabilities. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
