COTSWOLD CANALS - restoration - Canal Volunteers at Work

Canal volunteers making a difference: sometimes in extremes of weather conditions.
Waterway Recovery Group winter and summer work camps bring large additional teams of volunteers to assist with the work being carried out by local working parties.

This snapshot of worksites includes: Ebley circular weir, Griffin Mill Lock, Dudbridge Lock, Foundry lock, Wallbridge Upper Lock, Capel Mill site clearance of vegetation, the National Trailboat rally event, the new slipway between Gasworks bridge and Lodgemore bridge, and Bowbridge Lock and bridge.
Volunteers operate the trust workboat, tug, and public trip boats based at Saul, Lechlade and Ebley, together with operating two visitor centres.
Volunteers also manufacture and install high quality commemorative hardwood benches to raise funds, run a plant maintenance depot and provide instructional wildlife walks on a regular basis.

At the official reopening of Walbridge Upper Lock, volunteers on site were presented to HRH The Princess Royal.
