GWM Cannon Alpha Hybrid 2024 review: Australia's first hybrid ute targets new Ford Ranger dual-cab

The 2024 GWM Cannon Alpha Hybrid is here to shake up Australia's dual-cab ute segment, which hasn't seen a hybrid model until now. That's right; the Chinese newcomer has beaten next year's Ford Ranger PHEV to the proverbial punch when it comes to petrol-electric powertrains.
While the Cannon Alpha is also available with a 135kW/480Nm 2.4-litre turbo-diesel four-cylinder engine, the main focus here is the pioneering Hybrid, with its 'self-charging' series-parallel set-up consisting of a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol four-cylinder unit and an electric motor that combine for 255kW/648Nm.
