This inspiring lecture by Rav Dror talks about something that many of go through while on our spiritual journey towards the truth - the feeling that God has left us, or that God abandoned us. We feel let down by him, like he isn’t answering our prayers, or even listening to them, and we feel like maybe he doesn’t care about us anymore, and doesn’t love us. They go through suffering that they feel they don’t deserve, and struggles that the feel are unjust. Maybe they experience sickness or poverty, or just general unhappiness of life not going the way that want it to. The truth is that if we feel like God left us, it is because we left God. God doesn’t go anywhere, so if we feel far from him, it is because we created that distance. And God allows us to create that distance and feel that pain, because he knows that feeling that pain of separation from him will bring us back in the end. And even if you feel like you never did anything wrong, and that you haven’t sinned or turned your back on God, so talk to God about that. Pray about that. Do hitbodedut (Jewish meditation) on that subject. Say to Hashem “God, I feel far from you, I feel like you abandoned me, and I don’t understand why. I thought I was doing pretty good. Can you please show me what I have to fix to feel you again? Can you show me where I turned my back on you, so that I can repent and confess and do teshuva?” Have a conversation with him, like your friend who you got in to an argument with. Talk about it. Don’t just give up and be angry. Work on your relationship with God, just like you would any other relationship. If it’s an important part of your life, so dedicate some time to it!
