Pacing near McDermott, OH on NS's now-abandoned Peavine - May 1995

Описание к видео Pacing near McDermott, OH on NS's now-abandoned Peavine - May 1995

In May of 1995 we were treated to a westbound coal train a few miles west of Vera Junction along the now abandoned portion of Norfolk Southern's Cincinnati District, AKA "Peavine." We paced the train for a few miles along US Route 104 until just east of McDermott. This section of the line has been abandoned by Norfolk Southern & was "gifted" to the state of Ohio in 2024 as part of a deal selling the NA/CNO&TP line to Chattanooga, TN from the city of Cincinnati. Through traffic ceased on the Peavine route in 2003 and the east end between Vera Junction (near Portsmouth) and Plumb Run has been out of service since that time. The west end of the railroad from Clare yard to Plumb Run is operated by the Cincinnati Eastern Railroad.

Apologies for the shaky video, but given the abandonment of the east end line, the historical significance warranted sharing. If you enjoyed this video, please like & subscribe to my channel!
