At one point during her escape attempt that spanned four countries, dismissed Bamban mayor Alice Guo admittedly felt she had made a mistake, telling senators on September 9 that she contemplated on aborting the plan altogether.

"Actually, noong nakasakay na po kami sa malaking barko, sa totoo lang, kung puwede lang umatras, aatras na rin ako noon. Nakakatakot talaga. Nakakatakot po talaga. Gusto ko na pong umuwi, gusto ko nang bumalik... Nagkamali din po ako talaga doon," she said.
