This video ©️DEMICOMA Bridge Academy, is a part of a series of eight quick-take videos. It is a quick introduction to the game of Bridge. This is the eighth and the last video in the series. It describes a simple bidding system - the Joshi system.

Bridge is an easy game. Many players have learnt it while filling in as the fourth player. Bridge makes it easy. To begin a game, bridge requires four players, but for the last half of every deal, one of them becomes Dummy while other three play on.

When three bridge players are keen to have a game, they often enlist whoever is available around them to fill in as fourth. They need someone to pick the fourth player's cards and bid as advised. Once the bidding is over, one of the four players becomes the 'dummy'. He can then pick up the fill-in player's cards and play the game as normal. The fill-in player learns by watching. For the next deal, he again picks up cards but can take a few decisions on his own. In short order, that person becomes a useful player in his own right.

Judging from this, any person should be able to learn the game in less than one hour and be ready to play. You could show this series of videos to your friends and family - even to someone who is new to cards - and get them to play bridge in quick time. Believe me, you will enjoy the game. It will be a lot of fun.

This is the eighth an the last quick-take video in the series. It describes a simple bidding system - the Joshi system. Thus far, we briefly saw the rules of the auction and card-play. We also saw a simple method of hand evaluation and a rough estimate of what we need in order to try and bid a game contract so that we can get the game bonus. In this video, we look at a simple way to exchange information with partner. The aim is to tell partner how many HCP you have got, and to find a fit in one of the suits so that you can nominate that suit as a trump suit. Bridge rules require that you exchange information only through bids made in the auction, and not by means of voice or gestures, or any other means.

This video introduces the Joshi system, a simple system of exchanging information on hand evaluation. In Joshi system, you first show the High Card Points you have got. Partner does likewise. In subsequent rounds of bidding, you show suit lengths, that is, bid a suit if you have got five or more cards in it, and support partner's suit immediately if your have got 4, or support after one round of bidding if you have got 3. We look at two examples of bidding with the Joshi System. Both are hands from a recent world championship.
