Everything to Know About the Mummy (Before Another Universal Reboot!)

My family started Universal Studios, and I make videos about their work and legacy. When Universal Studios announced a Wolf Man remake, I made a video telling you everything you needed to know about the original to be ready. Now with another Mummy reboot in the works, I'm preparing you once again!

The Mummy is a pre-code horror film released by Universal in 1932, starring Boris Karloff, Zita Johann, David Manners and Edward von Sloan. It was directed by Karl Freund. In the film, an ancient Egyptian mummy named Imhotep is discovered by a team of archaeologists, and brought back to life when one of them reads an ancient scroll from his tomb.

Capitalizing on the success of Dracula and Frankenstein the year before, as well as the Egyptomania hype surrounding the opening (and curse!) of King Tut's tomb, Carl Laemmle and Junior Laemmle made this horror film that is way more innovative than it ever gets credit for, and that set off a century of sequels and remakes!
