Buses at the new Tarneit Bus Interchange during Peak Hour - Melbourne Transport

In this video we visit the new bus interchange at Tarneit Station, situated on the Geelong Line in Melbourne's growing western suburbs. Tarneit station opened on the 21st June 2015 with a small bus interchange on the north side of the station which was already at over capacity with passengers and bus movements, and had to be expanded numerous times over the years in an ad-hoc matter.

A new purpose-built bus interchange opened on the 19th November 2023 on the south side of the station, with all of the PTV fixed-route bus services moving to the new interchange. This includes routes 150, 151, 152, 160, 167, 170, 180, and 182. The new interchange features 8 bus bays, each with a shelter with some seating, passenger information displays with audio information, lighting, CCTV, landscaping and more. It's certainly a lot better than the old bus interchange with better amenities for passengers, and its close proximity to the station entrances on platform 2 makes for easy transfer between train and bus services.

Buses at Tarneit are operated by CDC Melbourne's Wyndham depot. Buses seen include the usual assortment of Volvo B7RLE's, Volvo B5LH hybrid buses, Scania L94UB's, Scania K230UB's, Scania K320UB's, and others. At the time of filming CDC Wyndham was having a little bit of a bus shortage which saw some older buses usually reserved for school bus services finding their way out onto route service. This includes bus #1 which is a 2000 Volvo B10BLE with a Volgren 'CR221L' body which is one of the oldest buses at Wyndham depot and features school bus signage and no Myki ticketing equipment. Other buses of interest seen include #85 which is a 2001 Volvo B7L (a low-floor chassis relatively rare in Australia), and #88 which is a 2002 Volvo B12BLE.
