Welcome to Inside Scoop, a video series that highlights aspects of Elmhurst Public Library that staff think YOU should know about. This month we’re taking you outside EPL and around the neighborhood to highlight YOUR little libraries!

Have you ever noticed the little miniature structures in front of homes and along walkways - they sit atop posts and have a little window on the front? Painted in all sorts of different colors, and constructed in different shapes - some simple, some ornamental? Maybe you’ve even seen one or two peppered around your block or perhaps you have one in your own front yard!

Have you ever stopped to take a closer look? If you haven’t, you should! Throughout Elmhurst, and in other neighboring areas, residents and small businesses are sharing their love of books and reading with you by adorning their front lawns and storefronts with a little free library.

Let’s go for a spin around town and see if we can find some!

We are grateful to be in a community that loves books! It’s not just apparent here at the Library, but outside as well, when you see all the little libraries around the neighborhood. These miniature book exchange boxes foster community, inspire readers, and make books accessible to all- and they’re also fun! Check out all the goings on here at EPL and in the neighborhood, and prepare to be amazed!
