Our group spent a wonderful week sailing and hiking in southern Dalmatia.
We hiked magnificent mountains with incredible views and swam in the gorgeous Adriatic Sea. First day we sailed from Split to Makarska, enjoying the natural beauty of the Croatian coast and the crystal clear sea. Makarska is located in a naturally protected harbor and is the center of the Makarska Riviera microregion. Sea, sun, local food, rich cultural heritage and the magnificent mountain Biokovo in the hinterland make Makarska Riviera one of the most attractive tourist destinations in Croatia.
The next day we climb Sutvid, a mountain in the Biokovo massif. The trail initially climbs with numerous bends to the pass, from where you go along a very rocky ridge to the top, very often with the necessary use of your hands. Sutvid, 1155 m, is the highest peak of the southwestern part of Biokovo and one of the most beautiful viewpoints on that mountain.
The next day we enjoyed swimming and walking in Trstenik on the Pelješac peninsula, from where we sail to Slano. This area has been inhabited since prehistoric times, so there are many remains of Greek and Roman history and the Middle Ages. We walk to the church of St. Orsula from the 15th century, from where there is a beautiful view of the entire bay. In the 14th century, Slano became part of the Republic of Dubrovnik. Until today, the Duke's Palace and several summer houses have been preserved, which are a reminder of the strength and culture of the Republic of Dubrovnik.
The next day, we sail to the island of Šipan, which belongs to the Elaphite archipelago, and hike along a circular, moderately challenging route from Šipan port to Suđurađ and back.
Early in the morning of the next day, the ship set sail for Mljet and from the town of Polače we went to the nearby peak of Montokuc. In the National Park, Montokuc is one of the most beautiful viewpoints on the island. It is only 258 meters high, but it offers the most beautiful view of the Large and Small lake.
Our next stop Korčula is an island of beautiful scenery and rich cultural heritage. The highest peak is Kom (508 m), from which there are beautiful views of the Korčula and Lastovo canals.
