Spark plug crossfire testing

Описание к видео Spark plug crossfire testing

You hear it said all the time…you have to keep your spark plug wires separated or else you’ll get crossfire between #5 and #7 spark plugs. Can it happen? I’m sure it can but I wanted to run a quick little test to see if I could see it happening.
For this test, I have the spark plugs installed just as they would be in your engine, and I have the wires on in the correct firing order 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2. The video will be focused on the “drivers’ side” bank so 1,3,5,7.
For wires, I used an old set of cheap Accel wires which are pretty old…I can’t even remember where I got them, but I’ve had them for many years. I also tested some Summit brand solid core wires. These wires literally have strands of wire inside a silicone jacket. I ran these wires in my street/strip daily driver back in the 90s. I wanted to see if there was any performance advantage between solid core wires and regular wires, so I tested them on the drag strip over the course of a racing season and, as I recall, there was no difference…I may have had some radio interference but nothing performance related.
For this test, I zip tied number 5 & 7 wires together to see if I would get any crossfire. Before you guys say anything…I know…in the real world and under racing conditions I’m sure it can happen. It also depends on many other factors too, but I just wanted to see if I could catch it cross firing on video. I didn’t see any but again, that doesn’t mean it can’t happen. This test doesn’t prove anything, but it was cool to see how close 5 and 7 fire.
