Meet the opportunity youth | Simran Sidhu | TEDxPhiladelphia

Описание к видео Meet the opportunity youth | Simran Sidhu | TEDxPhiladelphia

This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. It’s a shocking stat: as of last year, just more than 60% of Philadelphia’s public high school students will actually graduate. Behind the number, what actually happens to the many young people who’ve left school, for reasons too numerous to name? In this powerful, personal talk, Simran Sidhu shares how a group of "at-risk" students, given the chance to restart their education, are literally rebuilding the city.

Simran Sidhu is executive director of YouthBuild Philadelphia Charter School, a diploma-based program that provides young people who have dropped out of high school with an opportunity to reconnect with their education and to serve their communities in a meaningful way.

About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
