Airport Stagnation: The expansion of the state’s only airport has been stalled for decades. A critical 148.58 acres are currently occupied by the Assam Rifles, preventing the construction of a new terminal and the upgrades needed to handle larger aircraft.

Railway Constraints: While thousands travel through daily, the railway station is trapped by illegal encroachments and a lack of available land for track extensions or platform modernization.

Open Dumping: Due to a lack of segregation plants and scientific management systems, 86% of this waste ends up in open landfills or trenching grounds, often leading to toxic smoke and environmental degradation.

Urban Neglect: Rapid urbanization has led to a 66% population increase since 2011, leaving the city’s drainage systems clogged with plastic and solid waste, causing frequent flooding during the monsoons.
