Ingolstadt Central Station is one of three passenger stations in Ingolstadt, in addition to Ingolstadt Nord station and Ingolstadt Audi station. It is managed by DB Station & Service AG's Rosenheim Station Management.

In the second half of the 19th century, with the increasing growth of economic and population in Ingolstadt, the need for the rapid transport of goods and the rapid transport of people also increased. Steam shipping on the Danube, however, was unable to solve the traffic problems, as it proved difficult due to the water level and the current conditions.

On February 4, 1862, the magistrate of the city of Ingolstadt dealt for the first time with the construction of a railway line from Ingolstadt via Solnhofen to Pleinfeld, later via Eichstätt to Nuremberg. In October 1863, the Munich-Ingolstadt railway line was approved by the Kingdom of Bavaria, but the construction of the tracks was slow at first. Therefore, in 1865, the Ingolstadt magistrate sent a secondment to the king "for the transport of the railway construction of Munich-Ingolstadt".

Munich Central Station (IATA station code ZMU)is the central station in the Bavarian capital Munich. With about 400,000 passengers a day, it is the third busiest long-distance station of the Deutsche Bahn after Hamburg Central Station and Frankfurt Central Station.

The terminal station is one of the 21 stations of the highest price class 1 of DB Station&Service. Among all German stations, it has the highest number of all German stations (after the Grand Central Terminal in New York City)with 32 above and two underground platform tracks. With the exception of the S-Bahn, the station is the first or last station for almost all trains approaching it. The total area of the buildings and tracks is approximately 760,000 square meters.
