A dream-come-true indeed. After waiting for so long, I can finally try Japan Airlines.

I arrived from a Scoot flight and had a 12-hour layover at Changi, allowing me to explore the Jewel for quite a large amount of time. Despite having checked in for this flight online, I was glad that the ground staff at Changi allowed me to check in early, 5 hours before the flight, just when the check-in for the previous flight (JL36) was about to close and when there were only a few staff members left. Everything was quite slow because I checked in for a double-transit US-bound flight, and JAL miscommunicated with American Airlines which led to my travel parties being seated separately. However, I didn't bother about it at all. I then soon headed for a short rest at the airside area of Concourse D.

Boarding began soon, but strangely I wasn't allowed to accompany my other travel parties who needed wheelchair assistance. I was welcomed nicely, and I soon passed the business class seats (Thompson Aero Vantage), and headed to my seat, 17K (a Weber/Zodiac/Safran 5750), next to a Japanese man with whom I soon became chat buddies. The cabin, despite being old, was fresh and cozy with adequate air conditioning, and the seat, which JAL labeled as the "JAL SKY WIDER", was wide in terms of pitch and width. The seats are equipped with a coat hook, a separate cup holder, a table, plenty of storage space, and a JAL MAGIC-V IFE system. The IFE system was very good in contents, layout, and user-friendliness, although I would prefer a slide-left, slide-right interface rather than a scroll-down interface.

Take-off was 10 minutes late, and the crews continuously offered the passengers drinks every 30-minute intervals, ranging from ocha to coffee to apple juice. After a long sleep, breakfast was served. The sole option of porridge was absolutely delicious and looked very beautiful when it came to presentation. It came with a salad, fresh fruits, a yogurt, and a miso soup. This was when I started to switch my communication skills to Japanese, which ended up surprising one crew and breaking the silence of my seatmate. I had a good 30-minute Japanese conversation with him.

The landing was 7 minutes ahead of schedule, allowing me plenty of time to connect to my Los Angeles flight. As this was my first time onboard JAL, I didn't forget to take pictures with the crews, and I disembarked last because I had to also accompany my travel party who needed wheelchair assistance. There was a miscommunication between me, the PR team, and the crews upon landing, in which the crews thought I was going to record and post without permission, which is something indeed explicitly prohibited onboard Japan Airlines. However, since I had permission from the PR team of Japan Airlines 2 months before the flight, I could easily brush that off as just a simple misunderstanding.

Overall, I learned a lot from this airline. Perseverance, service, friendliness, punctuality, resilience, and plenty of more values that can be very beneficial for my self-development. Apart from the two miscommunications, this flight is my definition of a near-perfect flight.
