The Meaning of the Alpha and Omega Symbols in the Bible

Описание к видео The Meaning of the Alpha and Omega Symbols in the Bible

The Greek letters alpha (Α or α)and omega (Ω or ω) are often used as symbols for Jesus Christ in church art and architecture. In fact, the alpha and omega are one of the symbols for Jesus that comes straight out of the Bible. Jesus said in the book of Revelation:

"I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end" (Revelation 22:13). (See also Revelation 1:8, 21:6)

Alpha is the first letter of the Greek alphabet and omega is the last letter of the Greek alphabet. The meaning of this symbol, therefore, refers to God's eternity. God is three persons, but one God (a Trinity). God always existed in the beginning (alpha) and will always exist (omega). God is the first and the last. By applying this symbol to Jesus, we express the divinity of the Son of God.

The alpha and omega symbol is often depicted along with the Chi-Rho symbol, which are the first two Greek letters of "Christ."
