Ankylosing spondylitis is an important chronic autoimmune arthritis disease that causes low back pain and also pain in severel joint regions. In addition it may affect the colon or eye causing inflammation in those two organs that are termed colitis (ulcerative colitis or Crohn's) and uveitis respectively.

Dr. Hatem runs two rheumatology clinics (arthritis clinics) in Cairo (Egypt: Dr. Hatem Eleishi Medical Center) and in Jeddah (Saudi Arabia).
