Final boss is not quite the same without the screaming.

Stage 8 was pretty bad and stage 9 had two really dumb hits but otherwise this was a pretty good run.

Chose speed 9/3. Speed 9 is absolutely ESSENTIAL for score and survival on Extreme. Enemies move much faster and there are many formations you can't get and patterns you can't dodge if you don't have enough speed.

Natsuki Chronicles is the latest game made by Qute, the same guys who made Eschatos, Judgement Silversword and Ginga Force. Qute always makes really good shmups and really understands what makes shmups good and fun. With hot jams provided by Yousuke Yasui as usual.
Natsuki Chronicles takes place during the events of Ginga Force but from a different perspective.
The game was originally supposed to come out in 2015, shortly after the release of Ginga Force, but it fell into development hell. Qute had made a deal with Microsoft to make the game exclusive for the Xbox One, but when the Xbox One first got released in Japan it sold so astronomically bad that people thought the deal and the game got canned. It wasn't until December 2019 that the game suddenly out of nowhere come out on the Xbox One. Then in February of this year it also finally came to Steam and PS4.
It took 2000 years but finally we can play this game. And it's really good!

Natsuki Chronicles is Qute's take on a horizontal shmup this time.
It's kinda like the Ginga Force system combined with a touch of Thunder Force. You have a main shot, a subshot and different kinds of options. You can shoot both the main and subshot at the same time but they won't be as strong as when you're only shooting one at a time. You have many different weapons and there is a pretty big focus on dealing with enemies coming from the front as well as behind.
Each stage is pretty unique and has their own unique sets of challenges. Like stage 4 being the cramped indoor stage and stage 9 being the big open dogfight stage with mostly small fighters.
You only have one life in this game but you have a bunch of 1-hit shields that regenerate over time.

This game has some really good quality of life features as well as innovative ideas.
- Warning lines for where bullets are going to go. You can set this to high-danger bullets only, all bullets or just off.
- Ability to choose the speed of your focused and unfocused movement. And to make it hold or toggle.
- Warning arrows for where each and every enemy is going to spawn. This is really helpful for learning stages and identifying where the random enemies are going to spawn.
- Ability to change refresh rate. You can go up to like 900 fps, which really helps to minimize input lag.

The game consists of a Story Mode and an Arcade Mode.
- In Story you play each stage separately and you gradually unlock new and stronger weapons as you go. You select your loadout before every stage and there is story dialogue with special story stages.
- Arcade Mode is your traditional arcade mode, you go through all the stages in a single sitting. Instead of selecting your loadout, there are item carriers in the stages that drop different weapons.
Every time you get hit in this mode you lose power for the weapons you're carrying until you lose them entirely. A bit of Gradius-syndrome in this.
All of the story dialogue and story-focused stages are cut out.
