Goa is famous for its various sea food and non vegetarian preparations. But a must try dish when you visit Goa is its traditional authentic chicken curry also called as chicken xacuti. Making xacuti involves a lot of hard work, but its definitely worth the effort.

The chicken is first marinated with basic ingredients like ginger, garlic, coriander, chillies, turmeric and salt. Next step is to roast all the whole spices, onions and coconut and grind it into a fine paste. The marinated chicken is then cooked in this coconut and spice paste. The xacuti gravy tastes even better as it ages. Xacuti prepared on the previous day tastes awesome on the next day. This is because the chicken absorbs all the spicy flavours as well as the chicken taste gets released into the gravy.

Chicken xacuti is served along with Goan undo or pao and some raw chopped onion and a slice of lemon. Add the onions to the gravy and drizzle the gravy with lemon juice. Take a piece of pao and dip it into the gravy and enjoy Goa's world famous Chicken Xacuti.
