The NAVLE is required to work as a veterinarian in Canada or the US. Without it, you can only work as a technician/assistant.

Osama is currently working in a mixed animal practice in Alberta, Canada. He works 4 days per week as a small animal vet, and 1 day as a large animal vet.

There are no set quotas for jobs for international graduates. If you pass the exams, you can compete for jobs equally.

Government jobs require full licensure, which means passing all the exams. Private clinics may offer restricted licenses.

Osama recommends focusing on vet school, getting licensed, and then applying for jobs. Trying to do externships or Masters degrees rarely helps with the licensing process.

For people moving with spouses, the spouse can get an open work permit and work in any field.
