Fri Man - Free Man
Performed by NAKS Wan Rutu

Why is it that African religions and philosophy endure so much intolerance?

Why is it that we are encouraged to denounce our roots, yet are rewarded for upholding the culture of others?

In this vibrant performance the youngsters of NAKS Wan Rutu challenge those who denounce the African heritage to free their mind. Through song, dance and poetry, this performance protests against the marginalization of African religions, showcasing the beauty and strength of Afro-Surinamese deities.

"Let me be, he who denounces his roots, for I am a free man"

The following dances are performed (in order of appearance)
Ingi (Indian)
Obia
Banya - Kabra (the Banya dance for the ancestors)
Jaw Kromanti
