Dealing With Deconstruction

Josh Chatraw and Mike Kruger discuss the trend of deconstruction, its relationship to church hurt, and how to respond to deconstruction in healthy ways. Chatraw emphasizes the importance of distinguishing between essentials and distinctives, and giving people leeway to disagree on secondary matters without casting their whole faith into doubt. They also discuss the need to address church hurt and abuse in the church, which often leads people to deconstruction and faith crisis. Kruger argues that the pain people have experienced in church is something that needs to be addressed in Christian apologetics. Chatraw suggests the need for an “apologetics of repentance” rather than an ”apologetics of spin.“
