Are you an American expat, or relocating from Great Britain, Australia, Canada or elsewhere in the world and thinking about retiring in Thailand? If so, you know where you live will be a key decision and one of your main expenses. (BTW, there are no apartment rentals in Thailand. All those big buildings you see that look like hotels are actually individually owned condos. So you actually rent from the individual owner, although the odds are you will be just working with a rental agency and the building's Juristic Office (management office) and likely never meet the owner.)

Moving toThailand involves many decisions, and a big one is where to live. Most foreigners and expats opt for a condo, although free-standing houses are easily available once you get out of the center of the larger Thai cities. And the cost is not even much more than a condo. Happily, the cost of living in Thailand is low and this extends to housing, either a condo or a house.

We will talk about ways to find a condo (or house) in Thailand, and what to watch out for in your lease. Also, we will talk about some key considerations in choosing your condo. Finally, we will look at our first month's expenses for electricity, water and wifi to give you an idea of living costs here in Thailand.
