Ever since I became a truck driver last month, I've been to a few new places that allowed me to briefly get some trains. Here is a compilation from the month of February. Enjoy!
2-13-22
While unloading in Lafayette, IN, I caught an NS power move going east.
AC44C6M 4213 (ex-C44-9W 8895), C44-9W 9675
(0:22): On the way to Pierceton, IN for the reload, we drove by another yard in Lafayette. NS GP38-2 5193 (ex-SOU) sits along with a few other EMDs. Sorry for the bad view. I was driving, so I could only use my phone (was mounted in a phone mount and facing vertically).
(1:11): Passing the Andersons Plant in Clymers, IN where I saw PREX (Pioneer Lines) SW1500 1500 (ex-UP 1143/SP 2564) sitting with a line of tank cars.
(1:49): We pass a NS manifest switching in North Manchester, IN.
AC44C6M 4481 (ex-C44-9W 9140), ES44DC 7528
(2:11): While waiting in line several hours to get loaded in Pierceton, IN, this is where it paid off. I caught a WB G&W local led by a RCPE/CFE Geep duo! Had other ways to pass time during the wait, such as watching some anime (namely Voilet Evergarden and Eden Zero).
RCPE GP38-3 2086 (ex-DME 3831/KCS GP40 760/Conrail/PC 3130), CFE GP38-2 2095 (ex-CFE 3830/CNW 4612)
2-15-23
(3:08): After picking up in Cressona, PA, we drove by CNJ 0-6-0 113 displayed in Minersville, PA on the way out toward I-80. From what I understand, this locomotive occasionally operates on the RBMN.
2-16-23
(3:38): On I-76, we rode by the W&LE railyard in Akron, OH. Saw a lot of cool locomotives there, mostly sitting, but two switching (none of the former Unstoppable AWVR engines, but still other cool stuff)!
Yard switchers: GP35-3s 112 (ex-W&LE/NS/SOU GP35 2679) and 104 (ex-W&LE/NS/SOU GP35 2712, high hood)
Others: GP35-3 101 (ex-N&W GP35 1301, P&WV heritage unit), GP40-3 300 (ex-UP GP40 652/CNW 5532/Conrail/PC 3044), SD40-2 6990 (ex-CITX/GCFX 3065/CN SD40 5050), SD40-2 7005 (ex-W&LE 6358/MMA/BCOL 758), SD40-2 7020 (ex-W&LE 6385/W&LE/GSCX/GATX 7375/UP 4171/MP 3171), ABC (W&LE subsidiary) GP40-3 4005 (ex-DME GP40 4005/UP/MP 631/RI 4700), SD40-3 3048 (ex-WC/UP 3048), GP35-3 102 (ex-W&LE GP35 102/W&LE/NS/SOU 2713, OLS scheme), GP35-3 200 (ex-W&LE/NS/SOU GP35 2706, Ohio Bicentennial)
(5:08): Riding over some freight cars somewhere in Ohio.
(5:15): Later that night in Chicago in the snow, I caught a SB Metra commuter off I-90 (Kennedy Expressway) near Clybourn. I saw that one of the ex-Amtrak Surfliner F59PHIs was on the rear, but unfortunately it doesn't look like my phone picked it up well due to the angles/timing, along with it being dark out. Because I was driving, I wasn't feasibly able to turn the phone to the right.
2-17-23
(5:42): While leaving Chicago the next morning, I got some good catches. We start a BNSF manifest with two GEVOs and an NS Dash 9 sitting (caught off I-90), then soon after, we chase a SB Metra Rock Island Line commuter as it arrives at Sox-35th Street. Even caught a NB CTA Red Line in the process, and got the White Sox Stadium in the shot!
MP36PH-3S 410, Cab Car 8507
(9:56): Passing Metra 47 Street Yard to the left side, where we distantly see an SW1500 and F40PHM-2 (not sure how I'd react if it was 210 (if you know, you know)). Also included in this clip is several more CTA Red Line trains running between the bisected highway. As we pass 95th Yard, we see multiple CTA sets and two MOW vehicles.
(18:33): Passing a NS ECO idling with some cars. This engine was renumbered recently to make room for new AC44C6Ms.
NS GP33ECO 6702 (ex-NS 4702/NS/SOU GP50 7091)
(19:05): Some stationary rail cars.
(20:16): Somewhere near the Indiana border (forgot where), we faintly see a few G&W Geeps to the left side. Sorry I didn't get them too clearly, as they were hidden off to the left and the driver's side window had condensation. Not sure which shortline this is.
(21:05): Passing Grovertown, IN with a few grain hoppers and a track maintenance machine on Route 30
2-18-23
(22:07): As we take US 443 into Rockville, PA outside Harrisburg, we pass PRR Caboose 5258 near the Rockville Bridge. This caboose, situated by Fort Hunter Park, apparently serves as a B&B.
2-19-23
(23:31): Passing over the NS Harrisburg, PA yards of GI8, where we find GP38-2 5323 (ex-Conrail/PC 8149) sitting, and Enola, where we find an NS H series local about to depart with an SD40E leader.
SD40E 6302 (ex-SD50 6512), SD60E 6933 (ex-SD60 6560)
Important: Please read. There are more trains after this one, but we're coming close to the 5,000 character limit, so please see my pinned comment for the remainder of the description. Thanks!
(48:02): Slideshow of all these catches along with many still pictures taken over the course of these four weeks.
