TanBeard Plays SpongeBob SquarePants: SuperSponge (Gameplay)

After the success of Legend of the Lost Spatula, a SpongeBob game for the Game Boy Color, THQ decided to move forward by having a different developer make a new game for the PlayStation 1 called SuperSponge. SpongeBob SquarePants was a trendy kids' show when Season 2 came out in the early 2000s, and THQ saw the potential for a possible successful platformer game featuring our beloved character. SuperSponge was a 2.5D platformer, a genre that was gaining popularity at the time, and it was a good move to incorporate more platforming elements into the game.

Unlike the Rugrats games on the PlayStation, SuperSponge was the first game on the PlayStation console to focus on pushing the boundaries of the platforming genre with its unique style. Although it wasn't the best game in the third dimension, especially as the PlayStation console was nearing the end of its lifespan and the PlayStation 2 and Nintendo GameCube were gaining momentum in the gaming industry, it was still a notable addition to the SpongeBob game series.

SuperSponge was developed by Climax Groups, which created games for the Amiga and Commodore 64 in 1988. They also developed many ports for the Game Gear and various home consoles. In the 2000s, they also worked on a lot of Disney games and other licensed games. I don't know much about the company, but based on the games they've made, my initial thoughts are that they range from okay to nothing extraordinary. However, I hope they take a different approach to this SpongeBob game. I will show all the levels in the gameplay video if you guys remember growing up this gem on the PlayStation. Just like my experience with previous Rugrats games, I'm curious to see if this one will be good or clunky. Let's find out.
