In great news for Perth metro fishers, the Fisheries Minister has today announced that Cockburn Sound will be reopened for crabbing this summer from 1 December!

The decision was backed by science which shows blue swimmer crab stocks in the Sound have recovered to a level that allows friends and families to drop a crab net off the boat for a chance at catch a delicious feed.

Recfishwest has been advocating for the reopening of the Sound for crabbing for the last 10 years and it’s a fantastic outcome for recreational fishers further highlighting the importance of Cockburn Sound.

Reopening the fishery in the Sound will complement the already fantastic crabbing in the Swan River.
