This video introduces you to Ms. Junko Nakajima (stage name: Mari Natsuki). Mari was born to Japanese parents in Ikebukuro, Toshima-ku, Tokyo. Mari graduated from Sakamoto Music School, directed by Dr. Sakamoto. During high school, Mari worked at the female chorus "Sakamoto Pritiies."
In 1971, Mari (at age 19) sang "Small Love" under the name of "Junko Nakajima" and started working as a singer. She hoped to become like Janis Joplin, a famous American singer, but the songs written for her were all innocent Japanese idol-like songs that she didn't like. Since she sang songs she didn't care for much, her popularity didn't grow at all. So, she launched her tour around cabarets in various parts of Tokyo to promote herself.
In 1973, Mari (at age 21) sang "Silk Socks" under the name of "Mari Natsuki." She didn't like her stage name, "Mari Natsuki," which was inspired by "Let's Decide in the Summer" for her debut in June, but it was a huge hit with a bewitching choreography and finger action. Mari spends her busy days, following a TV song program, but she has developed hypogenic anemia and is hospitalized for three months. After discharge, her work had dropped sharply and she went around the cabaret again. Her body measurements in 1974 were B90cm, W60cm, and H90cm.
Working in a review show hut dancing by nude dancers, Mari was invited by a spectator who plays a theater to perform on stage and started working in musicals. In 1990, she went to New York all by herself to learn from Broadway shows. After returning from NYC, she announced the stage expression "Impressionist," which she worked on planning, composition, production, and performances in 1993, it has been performing more than 80 stages in 9 works up to Vol.8 in 2006, and in Japan, Germany, France and other countries in Europe. Her performing art was highly evaluated in Europe like in the UK and Poland.
In 1995, Mari received an approach from Yasuyo Konishi and announced the mini album "Mari in September." In 2006, she formed the blues band "Gibier Du Marie" and directed the album promotion video. In the following year, she announced she was dating a percussionist Nobu Saito. In 2008, launched the performance group "Mari Natsuki Terroir (MNT)," which was passed through the "In Transit" performance at the Tokyo Museum of Contemporary Art. In 2009, "Impressionist Néo", which has evolved from "Impressionism" to the creation of a group, was announced in 2009. Vol.1 was performed in "Our Red Riding Hood."
In 2010, Mari launched the ONE OF LOVE project to support women and children in developing countries with roses and music profits. The gigs held on June 21 are participated by various artists. She announced that she and Nobu Saito got married in May 2011. In 2015, Mari turned 62 years old, the 44 years of her entertainment career. In 2016, she got together with other performers like Tomomi Kahara, Anna Tsuchiya, Sishid Kafka, LILICO, and the female chorus unit "and Roses" to perform on stage.
In 2018, Mari became a curator of the leather brand "Barry." The original logo inspired by the kanji and favorite apple called "Natsuki" was made, and it was announced that the events produced would be divided into two times in summer and winter. The profits will be donated to children's education in developing countries.
Best of luck to Mari and Nobu whatever they do!!
