12 volt trolling motors - Will any one of these work on a small boat?

Описание к видео 12 volt trolling motors - Will any one of these work on a small boat?

12 volt trolling motors from brands like Minn Kota and Newport come in a wide range of prices and specifications. The cheapest electric trolling motors are the 12 volt trolling motors. In this video I compare three 12 volt trolling motors for use in small boats and Jon boats to see if the more expensive trolling motors provide any additional top speed or features. One trolling motor is an old Shakespeare 14 lb thrust trolling motor. Another trolling motor is a brand new Minn Kota C2 30 lb thrust trolling motor. The third one I try is an older Minn Kota 55 lb thrust trolling motor.

The first electric trolling motor is a brand new Minn Kota Endura C2 30 which is a 30 lbs of thrust 12 volt trolling motor. This low cost trolling motor is for freshwater use and can be found for sale at many major retailers. The second electric trolling motor is an old 12 volt Shakespeare Sigma 14 lbs of thrust trolling motor which was probably originally sold in the 1970s or 1980s. This 12 volt electric trolling motor is probably also only for use in freshwater. The third 12 volt trolling motor featured in this video is a Minn Kota Riptide 55 which is a 55 lbs of thrust electric trolling motor that is also 12 volts and rated for saltwater use. The one I am using is several years old, but the design hasn't really changed.

If you're in the market for a small, simple transom mount trolling motor for your small boat or jon boat, all of these 12 volt trolling motors will do the job while you're fishing but some cost much more than others and those 12 volt trolling motors might not be worth the extra cost. Is there really much difference between a 14 lbs of thrust trolling motor and a 30 lbs of thrust trolling motor and a 55 lbs of thrust trolling motor on a little aluminum boat?

I try out each of these 12 volt trolling motors on an old 14 foot aluminum boat made by Lone Star. This boat is semi V hull design and is the type of moat many people who are shopping for a small trolling motor might be using for fishing in ponds, small lakes or creeks. I compare the top speed of each of these motors and encounter a surprise issue with the brand new Minn Kota Endura 30 that I am able to address in this video.
