Sarah Everard’s Killer Wayne Couzens In Alleged Sex Offence Against A Child

An independent inquiry into the case of Sarah Everard's killer, Wayne Couzens, has exposed serious flaws in police vetting and recruitment processes.

The review now calls for a radical overhaul to prevent similar incidents.

Couzens, a former police officer, abducted, raped, and murdered Ms. Everard while off duty in March 2021.

The inquiry revealed that warning signs about Couzens' unsuitability as an officer were "repeatedly" overlooked during his nearly 20-year policing career.

At least five incidents, including a serious sexual assault against a child before his policing career, went unreported.

The lawyer leading the inquiry, Lady Elish Angiolini, suggested there could be more victims.
