Tradition and History | Armenian Baptism | Adventures in Armenia

On our third day in Armenia we are attending a baptism for our dear friend’s baby Maria! We began the day at our favorite morning pastry restaurant Baguette and Company and then went straight to the church and celebration!

The holy sacrament of baptism is a sacred ritual performed when a family has a new child in the Armenian orthodox church. The family will chose a church or monestary that they would like to hold the special ceremony and family members and god parents are present. The water symbolizes a new life and purity. The child is anointed with the water and oils during the baptism and becomes reborn into christianity. We were honored to be able to share this special day with our adoptive armenian family.
We couldnt help but feel the presence of God in this beautiful place surrounded by these amazing people and history.
Once the baptism is finished we drove to a beautiful place outside the city for a dinner and celebration. Today was also international childrens day so it was a perfect day to celebrate the blessings of our children and Maria’s special day. The Armenian people definitely know how to celebrate as we saw on our last visit to the country where we attended Gohar and Arsen’s wedding back in 2019. This celebration was a bit lower key but no less special and beautiful. The food was spectacular and through our entire trip to Armenia we couldnt say that we were ever hungry!
