Lung, saxophone quartet (Sam Ostroff) - score video

Описание к видео Lung, saxophone quartet (Sam Ostroff) - score video

Performed by the USC Thornton Saxophone Quartet at Newman Hall. Composed by Sam Ostroff, commissioned by Hannah Sobelman (soprano sax).

Lung is an exploration of the way a quartet can sing, sway, and breathe as a single entity, treating the saxophones akin to a choir. The first movement is a breathing meditation on the dynamic use of air. The second movement is breathless, a relentless figure racing in sync across the four members of the ensemble. The third movement embraces the choral nature of the saxes. The final movement is an exercise in close voicing and locked rhythms, closer to a barbershop quartet than a string quartet.
